Junior Council Members Brett Estwanik and Tony Tao ran in the New York City Marathon on November 4, 2007 to support Safe Horizon.
Brett and Tony support Safe Horizon for a common reason -- to help victims of violence and abuse:
“Safe Horizon’s mission resonated with me from the beginning; while tutoring underprivileged students during high school, I witnessed too often the devastating, long-term effects of neglect, abuse and violence in these children’s lives.” - Brett Estwanik
“I became active in domestic violence issues through internships during college. While listening in on phone calls placed by victims of abuse, I realized that the issue of domestic violence does not discriminate against socio-economic status, gender, race and sexual orientation. For all the victims that take the initial step to seek advice and assistance, there are countless others whose plight goes unknown.” - Tony Tao
The Junior Council’s mission is to support Safe Horizon’s critical work moving victims of violence from crisis to confidence by raising funds to support these endeavors and to increase awareness of Safe Horizon among the next generation.
Safe Horizon is the nation’s leading victim assistance organization and serves over 350,000 people each year who have been touched by violence. Whether we are responding to child abuse, domestic violence, or other violent crimes, we provide the practical tools, emotional support, education and advocacy to help victims and their families heal and rebuild their lives.
