The AngelRock Project
Since 2001, Malaak Compton-Rock has been a steadfast supporter of Safe Horizon’s work for children. Her philanthropic focus, however, extends beyond Safe Horizon. She has launched AngelRock Project to highlight the humanitarian campaigns and philanthropic cause-related marketing initiatives that she personally helps coordinate or support.
The AngelRock Project focuses on six key initiatives:
-
Champions for Children and Safe HorizonMs. Compton-Rock founded Safe Horizon’s Champions for Children Committee in 2005 to rally leaders in entertainment, business and philanthropy to protect children and save lives by raising awareness of child abuse. -
Children’s Services in Brooklyn Helping disadvantaged children in Brooklyn, New York is particularly important to the Rock family. Chris Rock grew up in the borough. The AngelRock Project supports Safe Horizon’s services throughout Brooklyn and partners with The Salvation Army Bushwick Community Center.
-
Education and Development in South Africa The AngelRock Project is working with children as far away as South Africa by bringing much-needed support to the community of Diepsloot, a poverty-stricken shanty town in Johannesburg, South Africa and to the residents of Soweto, South Africa. Their efforts focus on educational and micro-finance projects.
-
Triple Negative Breast Cancer Ms. Compton-Rock is actively involved in the work of the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation (TNBC Foundation), which aims to raise awareness of this extremely aggressive sub-type of breast cancer and to support scientists and researchers in their effort to determine the definitive causes of the disease, so that effective detection, diagnosis, prevention and treatment can be pursued and achieved.
-
Hurricane Katrina Supporting Hurricane Katrina relief is an ongoing commitment for the AngelRock Project, which is helping families and children through partnerships with The Children's Defense Fund's Freedom School in the 9th Ward of New Orleans and Bonita House of Hope in Houston, TX.
-
Styleworks Founded by Ms. Compton-Rock in 2000, Styleworks continues to offer mentoring programs and a referral service for women moving from welfare to work.
