The mission of the Junior Council is to support Safe Horizon’s critical work moving victims of violence from crisis to confidence by raising funds to support these endeavors and to increase awareness of Safe Horizon among the next generation.
The Host Committee consists of a valuable group of young supporters who partner with the Junior Council to provide on-going support to Safe Horizon's critical mission. Through their vast social network of friends and colleagues, the Host Committee raises awareness and funds by driving young New Yorkers to attend Safe Horizon Junior Council events.
Since its founding in the spring of 2006, the Junior Council has grown to include 27 individuals who have dedicated their time and talents to work with our clients and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for our critical services. The Junior Council has informed and energized young leaders in business, philanthropy and media, introducing over 1,000 individuals to our cause.
In May 2008, the Junior Council was honored with the Champions for Tomorrow Award at the 2008 Champion Awards Luncheon. The award was created to honor the leaders of the next generation who help to carry our mission forward. The work of Safe Horizon's Junior Council exemplifies that ideal, always reaching out in innovative and meaningful ways to educate and engage a wider audience.

“I saw the Junior Council of Safe Horizon as the perfect opportunity to give to an organization that helps people on a micro-level here in New York City every day, in every community. I realized that Safe Horizon’s services are models for programs all over the world and the impact of its advocacy and outreach is felt across the nation. I knew I wanted to be involved.”
Anna Richardson Junior Council Founder and Former Co-Chair
“As a young professional living in New York, I found it’s easy to isolate oneself from those less fortunate and focus your time and efforts to more familiar organizations and causes. Safe Horizon served to educate me on the significance and general neglect of those victimized by acts of violence. I hope to communicate what I have learned through my involvement with the Junior Council and inspire action amongst my peers to support Safe Horizon."
Bradford Nugent Junior Council Member
“Safe Horizon is one of the most inspiring organizations I’ve ever had the privilege to know. Since graduating and entering the working world, I was aching to get involved in something where I could give back to the community that has nurtured me and gotten me this far in my life. I can think of no better organization for this than Safe Horizon, which devotes itself to helping those less fortunate in our community to find support, hope, and safety.”
